What is a doula?
A birth doula is a woman who provides experienced support throughout pregnancy and during labor. We are there by your side, always attentive to you.
What kind of support is provided?
A birth doula gives, informational (educational), emotional, and physical support. I make sure you have all the up to date information to help you make informed decisions concerning your birth. I am there to assist you along the way with any fears or concerns. And especially during labor I am there to help ease your pain and help labor to proceed.
I will be having my husband there and other relatives. Why would I still need a doula?
A doula works well in supporting all those involved with the birthing process. It may be too much pressure for the husband or other family to be expected to know just what to do every step of the way. But with a doula, they can just be there with you while the doula is on her toes the whole time. We can also help show through example the right way to touch you or the right way to talk so that what support they are giving can be beneficial to you.
What are the benefits of having a doula at my birth?
Studies have been done that have shown there to be less Cesarean Sections and epidurals with a doula present.
These same studies have shown that the mother-baby outcomes were more positive with better latch on success and bonding.
